Groendyke Transport Welcomes Senator Moran

ENID, OK (July 11, 2013)—Groendyke was proud last week to host United States Senator Jerry Moran at the Company’s Hutchinson, Kansas terminal. The Senator and his staff had an opportunity to gain insight into the professional transportation sector, and its role in maintaining the United States as the world’s preeminent economy.

During his tour of the facility, Senator Moran met terminal management, drivers, mechanics and other terminal personnel. Groendyke drivers and their support personnel are widely recognized as the safest, most knowledgeable and courteous in the trucking industry. The Senator also had an opportunity to see the logistics and professionalism it takes to efficiently and safely transport vital bulk commodities. The tank truck industry require highly skilled individuals, and Senator Moran met with what Groendyke refers to as “the top 1% of the top 1%.”

Safety is the cornerstone of Groendyke’s 80-year history, and it is evident at the Company’s Hutchinson terminal. Personnel proudly presented the Senator with the terminal’s most recent 8 million mile safe driving award, and 2013  Kansas Driver of the Month, Svend Kjaer’s award.  Drivers and personnel rely on innovative technology, advanced equipment, and progressive safety policies and procedures. The Senator enjoyed his tour of the terminal’s fleet, and learned about the features of some of the newest 2014 trucks. Those trucks are equipped with the latest engine technology that reduces emissions and limits maintenance costs, advanced air disc brakes, and roll stability that impedes a truck’s potential for a roll-over accident. Senator Moran learned that the technology inside the cab is just as vital as that under the hood. Bluetooth and Ultra Shift Transmission allow two hands on the wheel at all times, and an electronic vehicle inspection tool which allows the driver to log pre and post trip inspections.

Senator Moran also had the chance to learn about the variety of trailers that Groendyke trucks pull, and the important, but sometimes hazardous chemicals, they contain. Although it was evident to the Senator that Groendyke is committed to putting state of the art technology in its trucks, installing cutting edge equipment, and transporting commodities in the most efficient and time-sensitive manner. It is our people that make the Company one of the safest and most successful carriers in the Nation.
